Star Wars Battlefront E3 2014: Behind the scenes

Battlefront E3 2014

Beyond a handful of tweets from DICE developers, progress on Star Wars Battlefront has been relatively quiet since the announcement trailer last year at E3. EA opened their E3 conference this year with a behind-the-scenes look at DICE’s approach and reverence for Star Wars and Battlefront.

DICE was able to access to the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum to get a first-hand look at some of the props used in the original movies. Using latex gloves, they photographed and documented items such as the second Death Star, T-47 snowspeeders, and Stormtrooper helmets to use later on for reference.

They also traveled to the original movie locations for Hoth in Finse, Norway and the forest moon of Endor at the Redwood National Park in California.

While they didn’t show any actual gameplay, they did show some early in-engine footage that seems to capture the essence and feel of Star Wars, complete with smudged and stained Stroomtrooper armor and puffs of smoke after a blaster shot.

Beyond a behind-the-scenes look at a still early production, there was little information gleamed. EA has said in the past Battlefront will be coming around summer 2015, but the video ended by saying see more in spring 2015. There aren’t any gaming expos during then, but Star Wars Celebration will be taking place in April 2015, so it’s likely there will be more about Battlefront then.
