It’s rare when developers talk about the design and development of games they worked on more than 10 years ago. It’s even rarer when those developers give full detailed walkthroughs about the design and creation of those games. Brett Douville, currently an independent developer, was the lead programmer on Fallout 3 and Skyrim, but he worked for LucasArts, where his last project for the company was lead programmer on Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Brett has been streaming an oral history of Republic Commando on his Twitch account, breaking down everything from the striking intro on the planet Kamino, to working around limitations of the engine. It’s not quite a postmortem in a true sense of the word, but it’s doubtful we’ll ever see anything closer.
